RANT POST: Groupon Conned Me! Macadamia Deep Repair Hair Masque




Well, hello there.

This was going to be an awesome review of the Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque. But guess what? I can't review it because Groupon sent me a fake product. How did a smart woman like me come to acquire a fake hair product? Grab some snacks and let me tell you a story.
My bestie and fellow black haircare obsessive raved about this product. I read a good amount of reviews online praising the product for its effectiveness, consistency and divine smell.

But I also read a lot of negative reviews on Amazon about marketplace sellers selling a watered down version. This put me off buying from Amazon altogether so I searched Google and found a too good to be true offer from Groupon aka GroupCON.

I couldn't believe my luck so I eagerly purchased the hair masque for an incredible £12.98.
It normally retails on macadamiahair.co.uk and boots.com for nearly £30. Alarm bells should have been ringing off in my ears, but no, I was comparing the bargain price to the Amazon price which was similar.

My order arrived fairly quickly, although, I did not appreciate the delivery man banging my door like the damn police after 9am. I opened the package full of excitement and was pleased to see the nice packaging. Nice and green and brown.

I went upstairs with my prize, sat down on my bed expecting to be greeted by a waft of macadamia goodness.

WRONG!

This is what I got:

NOW WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?!

Do you see any pearlescence? No.
Does the consistency match the description and reputation of the product? No.
Does it smell incredible? Don't make me cuss bad word in my post, man.

You must be mad if you think I'm gonna put this fake masque in my head.

The smell that hit me was nothing short of rancid. It smelt like cheap chemicals. I can't even leave the lid off for too long otherwise the smell gives me a headache. I promptly called the GroupCON customer service line and told the lady on the phone that I need a refund as I've received a counterfeit product. It was mildly amusing when she confirmed she'd be putting it through as a ''poor quality'' item. Erm, no lady. It's not poor quality. It's fake! Sheesh.

Thankfully, she sent me a prepaid label so I can return it. God help them anyhow I had to pay to return it myself. It would have been an early Armageddon around here.

I am shocked and appalled.

To think that Groupon would partner up with what is no doubt a shady as hell supplier and sell this muck to people is disgraceful and unacceptable. I can't emphasise enough how bad it smells. I sent a photo and voice message to my bestie cussing (no actual cusswords, mind) about the injustice of it all. She died laughing when she saw the photo. That's not macadamia, she said. Too right that's not macadamia! A lot of reviewers have compared it to cheap conditioner. These are kind people. The words I wanna use, I can't, as I'm not going to jeopardise my salvation.

What have I learnt?

That cheapness always costs more in the end.

What's the plan?

To purchase a sachet size from the official website, see if my low porosity kinky hair loves it and then buy a nice big tub. Then I can review it for you lovely people! :)
