I Found a Drugstore Dupe for Urban Decay Blackheart!

Did you miss me?

I've had phone problems which meant no blog posts as I like my interaction on social media to coincide with posting.

Anyway, I never thought I'd be writing about this so soon.

I am overjoyed. I don't care how shallow this sounds. I couldn't give a monkeys. Everyone who knows me knows I LURVE Urban Decay eyeshadows. I don't care that they retail at £14 a pop. Their eyeshadows are pure pigmented sexiness on my lids so I will gladly spend the dough and forgo food for the week. (Just kidding). But I do buy them and love them. However, one thing has made me sad. I discovered Blackheart but realised it only exists in the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette and as an eyeliner. This did not satisfy me. I love it but I'm not about to spend £38.50 because I'm in love with one colour.

In the back of my head I vowed to find a dupe or badger Urban Decay to release Blackheart as a single eyeshadow. The latter has yet to happen but I made a quick trip to Superdrug on Wednesday. I didn't intend to buy anything but put me in the makeup aisle and the chances of me spending money are sky high. I ventured into the makeup aisle (all drugstore) and started checking out Makeup Revolution London. Until Wednesday I owned nothing by this brand. I now have a new found respect for them. My only quibble is the eyeshadow palette itself contains a derivative of mineral oil which sucks BUT it's not going on my actual face so that is my rationalisation. I avoid mineral oil in skincare and makeup like the plague.

That reminds me, I was accosted in Boots last week and ended up buying an Yves Saint Laurent concealer. I'd gone to Boots to buy a face sunscreen (more on that fiasco later). I got home, looked at the packaging to see that the 25 QUID concealer had mineral oil as one of its top ingredients. I DON'T THINK SO, Yves Saint Laurent. I do not pay that kinda money to put dutty cheap narsty pore blocking mineral oil on my face. So rude. I wish I snapped the packaging. That yack went right back to the shop. Disappointed in you, Yves Saint Laurent.

Anyway, back to the eyeshadow palette in question.

I spent a long time perusing the shelves. Does anyone else feel shady as hell looking at products in shops for what feels like too long? I have an inherent distrust for drugstore makeup. I automatically have low expectations concerning the quality. The only brand I trust is Sleek MakeUP as the quality has always impressed me (bar the Ultra Mattes V2 palette. Hated that. In the bin). The Makeup Revolution eyeshadows look good in the palettes (the packaging itself is kinda whack and lacks any real finesse but I guess I shouldn't complain when I only paid 4 quid) but the proof is in the pudding or shall I say swatching :)

Let's get to them swatches!

Now look at that! On the left is the Makeup Revolution eyeshadow and the right is the scribble swatch of Urban Decay Blackheart 24/7 eyeliner. Is this a dupe? I sure as hell think so! If you follow me on Snapchat you would've had the fortune of listening to me lose my damn mind over this discovery.

I am quite surprised at the quality of these eyeshadows. They swatched nicely and the matte/satin shades were smooth and not patchy. The real test will be blending them on my lids but considering that all these swatches are without a primer I think this is a great drugstore palette. If you're not down to buy the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette, then check out this affordable alternative.

  1. I think I am bias but I totally agree. I am all for using makeup revolution over buying urban decay apply an eye shadow primer for onyx and you get the same perfect results.

    1. Hello!

I think sometimes high end is better BUT sometimes a drugstore product with care can produce similar results. All trial and error methinks :)
      Thanks for stopping by! x
